What's a test sieve, really? Just a frame holding a mesh with one fixed opening size. Pass material through it and only particles smaller than that opening get through. Simple in concept, but it's the backbone of particle testing in pharma, food, mining, construction, and research labs.
Here's a mix-up people make a lot: mesh number isn't the same as micron size. Mesh counts openings per inch — more openings crammed into that inch, smaller each one gets. Micron size just measures the gap itself, no counting involved. And why B.S.S., ASTM, I.S.? Because different regions built their own aperture tables over the years, so the standard you quote actually matters.
So how do you pick one? Start with your target particle range, confirm the standard your test calls for, then match frame and mesh to your sample. Afterward — clean it carefully, check for wear, store it dry.
A test sieve is a precision laboratory instrument used to separate and classify particles according to their size. Test sieves are widely used in pharmaceutical, food, mining, construction, agriculture and research laboratories for particle size analysis and quality control.
Test sieves can be supplied for requirements based on IS 460, ASTM E11 or ISO 3310. Because aperture series, tolerances and examination requirements differ, buyers should identify the applicable standard and required documentation when requesting a quotation.

IS 460 specifies requirements for Indian Standard test sieves, including wire-cloth and perforated-plate configurations. Select the relevant part and edition according to the testing method. Standard conformance should be confirmed against the supplied sieve and its documentation.

Important: This table is a general conversion reference. Mesh designations are not interchangeable across every standard. Use the nominal aperture and the applicable current standard when specifying or verifying a test sieve.
Micro Test Sieves: These testing sieves are available in one piece frame of 4" diameter and also available in sizes of 1-1/2", 3", 5" and 6" diameter with suitable lid and receiver (sold extra).
Coarse Test Sieves: These testing sieves of 8", 12" and 18" diameter are available with perforated plates with round or square holes size No. 4.75 to 100 mm. Customized sizes are also available on request.
Fine Test Sieves: 12" and 18" diameter are available in size No. 4 to 500.
Customized Sieves: If you have special size requirements, we can design and manufacture for you, just provide us details and get sieves with exact sizes you need. We also manufacture conical and wet sieves with wooden or stainless steel and aluminum frame.

After each test, clear out retained material using a method suited to the mesh and sample. Don't force hard tools through fine wire cloth. Check the frame, mesh tension and apertures for damage, then store clean, dry sieves separately to prevent distortion. Verification frequency should follow the laboratory quality system and applicable test method.
