It is used to separate particles based on their size. The process is done by passing particles of various sizes via a series of chambers that have mesh filters. The sample is agitated that results in complete separation.

Sieving can be used to separate things from the mixture so that they can be used separately. It separates particles of different sizes.

Sieving is a process of solid materials with the help of a sieve whereas filtering is the process of separating liquid material using filter paper.

The sample to be separated is kept to the vertical or horizontal motion during the process of sieving. This results in the relative movement between the sieve and the particles. Then the particles are either passed through the sieve mesh or remained on the surface of the sieve based on its size.
