Bionics Scientific manufactures vertical autoclaves, also known as top loading steam sterilizers, for hospitals, laboratories, research centers, pharmaceutical units and quality control labs. These sterilizers use saturated steam under pressure to sterilize glassware, surgical instruments, culture media, flasks, beakers and other compatible laboratory materials.
Our vertical steam sterilizers are available from 22 liters to 175 liters with double wall, triple wall and GMP stainless steel construction options. The compact top loading design saves floor space, while digital controls, safety valves, pressure interlock, water level indication and radial locking help users operate the machine safely and consistently.
A vertical autoclave is a cylindrical steam sterilization chamber with top loading access. It is preferred where reliable sterilization is required in limited space. The chamber heats water to produce steam, builds pressure inside the vessel and maintains the required temperature for a fixed sterilization cycle. It is widely used in microbiology laboratories, hospitals, clinics, food testing labs and industrial testing facilities.

A vertical autoclave works by generating steam inside the chamber and raising pressure to achieve the required sterilizing temperature. The load is placed inside the chamber, water is heated through the immersion heater and steam replaces air inside the vessel. Once the set temperature and pressure are reached, the sterilization cycle runs for the selected time. After completion, pressure is released safely and the sterilized load is removed after cooling.
The main components include stainless steel chamber, lid with radial locking, silicon rubber gasket, immersion heater, pressure gauge, automatic pressure switch, steam release valve, water outlet valve, low water indicator, safety valve, pedal lifting device and digital timer. Optional upgrades include PLC control, printer, USB interface, chart recorder, GMP construction and documentation support.

1. What is a Vertical Autoclave?
A Vertical Autoclave is a top-loading steam sterilizer that uses saturated steam under pressure to sterilize laboratory glassware, surgical instruments, culture media and other heat-resistant materials.
2. How does a Vertical Autoclave work?
A Vertical Autoclave generates saturated steam inside the chamber and raises pressure to achieve sterilization temperatures of 121°C or 134°C, effectively eliminating bacteria, viruses and spores.
3. What is the standard sterilization temperature in a Vertical Autoclave?
Most Vertical Autoclaves operate at 121°C for standard sterilization and 134°C for rapid sterilization depending on the application and load type.
4. What pressure is used in a Vertical Autoclave?
The standard operating pressure is usually 15–17 PSI, while some models can be upgraded up to 30 PSI.
5. Where is a Vertical Autoclave used?
Vertical Autoclaves are widely used in hospitals, microbiology laboratories, pharmaceutical industries, biotechnology laboratories, research institutes and food testing laboratories.
6. What materials can be sterilized in a Vertical Autoclave?
It can sterilize laboratory glassware, surgical instruments, culture media, stainless steel tools, liquids, dressings and other steam-compatible materials.
7. What capacities are available in Vertical Autoclaves?
Bionics Scientific manufactures Vertical Autoclaves in 22 L, 40 L, 50 L, 95 L and 175 L capacities with double wall, triple wall and GMP construction options.
8. What is the difference between a Vertical Autoclave and a Horizontal Autoclave?
A Vertical Autoclave is top-loading and ideal for laboratories and hospitals with limited space, while a Horizontal Autoclave offers front loading and is suitable for bulk sterilization.
9. How long does a Vertical Autoclave sterilization cycle take?
A standard sterilization cycle generally takes 20–30 minutes depending on the load, pressure, temperature and drying requirements.
10. How do I choose the right Vertical Autoclave?
Select the appropriate Vertical Autoclave based on chamber capacity, operating temperature, working pressure, construction type, automation level and your laboratory, hospital or pharmaceutical application.
